Hofstra MLAX Falls to CAA Rival Towson Tigers in Regular Season Finale

The Hofstra Pride fell to the Towson Tigers in the last game of the regular season today at James M. Shuart Stadium, with a final score of 8-7. Hofstra closed out the regular season with an overall record of 9-5 and 3-2 within CAA play. It was also a special day for the Pride’s graduating seniors, who played their final game at home in front of the Hofstra crowd.

The win gives the Towson Tigers a share of the CAA regular season title with the Fairfield Stags. They do, however, secure sole possession of the #1 seed and the right to host the CAA Tournament beginning on Thursday, May 5. Towson will face off against the Drexel Dragons at Johnny Unitas Stadium at 4 p.m. on Thursday, followed by the Hofstra Pride taking on the Fairfield Stags at 7 p.m. The CAA Championship will be played on Saturday, May 7 at Towson between the winners of each of these two games.

Both teams played tight defensively in the first half of today’s match before entering the third quarter tied at 2, while the second half brought a surge of offense. The floodgates opened in the third quarter and the battle continued with goals quickly exchanged on both ends of the field. After the Tigers took a two-goal lead of 6-4, the Pride responded with three unanswered goals of its own in the third quarter to bring the score to 7-6. Towson found the equalizer midway through the fourth quarter and regained a lead of 8-7 with a goal from Mike Lynch. Hofstra had four and a half minutes to try to tie up the game once again, but Towson goalie Tyler White held strong in net and stopped all of the Pride’s remaining advances. Though the game stayed close throughout, the Tigers outshot the Pride 34-23 overall and Hofstra just couldn’t net one to match Towson in the dying minutes.
